This week, New Jersey residents witnessed strange aerial activity: swarms of large drones flying at night. Equipped with blinking lights and described by some as being as large as a car, these drones have baffled both the public and authorities. Their sudden and unexplained appearances have led to heightened concerns and an ongoing investigation.

What Happened?

The mysterious drones first caught attention on social media, where residents shared videos and photos of the nocturnal visitors. These sightings quickly prompted a response from authorities. On Thursday, Governor Phil Murphy announced that he had convened a briefing with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to address the situation. In a statement shared on social media, Murphy said, “The government was actively monitoring the situation and in close coordination with our federal and law enforcement partners.”

Reports Flood Police Departments

During a press conference on Friday, Walt Miller, the police chief of Jersey’s Evesham Township, said his department was overwhelmed with reports of the drones. “They weren’t like the normal drone that someone would purchase and use in their home,” Miller noted. “They were large, some were described as being as large as an SUV, had blinking lights on them.” Despite reaching out to state police for assistance, no one could identify the drones or determine their purpose. Miller added, “At this time we’re still investigating, we have no information of who the drones belong to or what their purpose was.”

Unique Features of the Drones

One of the most striking aspects of these UAVs was their ability to fly under adverse weather conditions. Miller remarked on their resilience, saying, “The wind that was present—one of those small, hobbyist drones wouldn’t have been able to fly,” but these drones managed to “navigate the weather” with ease.

Government Actions and Ongoing Investigation

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has since imposed drone flight restrictions in parts of New Jersey as federal and local authorities continue their investigation. Chief Miller confirmed that the FBI is now involved, with officials working to uncover the origins and intentions of these advanced drones.

Speculations and Concerns

The lack of clear answers has fueled speculation. Some theorize that the drones might be part of a secret military or corporate experiment, while others worry about potential foreign surveillance. Governor Murphy and federal authorities have reassured the public that the matter is being treated with utmost urgency.

For now, the drones remain a mystery. As investigations continue, residents of New Jersey and the broader public are left wondering: Who owns these drones, what were they doing, and why New Jersey? The skies hold many secrets, and this one might take some time to uncover.
